Women Call for their Stance on Peace in Afghanistan

Afghan Women’s Network (AWN), and Equality for Peace and Democracy (EPD, a non-government organization) on Sunday called for their stance and active participation in peace talks, stressing that their achievement in past 17 years should not be compromised.

Forouzan Rasouli, deputy head of EPD, said the peace process have always been compromised; no decision should be made without the presence of Afghan women and youth. Women should not be kept away from peace talks, she exclaimed.

Meanwhile, a member of AWN Mashaal Roshan said Afghan women support peace talks between the parties, but their role and rights should not be gambled.

Women also urged no changes to the political system, exclaiming the right to democracy and their achievement should be reserved.

Furthermore, women demanded active participation in peace talks with the Taliban group.

Women are being deprived of talks, and waits for United States to decide for our county, said Mahboba Saraj, another member. US troop withdrawal from the country is a hasty move and unacceptable decision.

It comes after the President Ashraf Ghani called on some 2,000 women at Loya Jirga Tent on Thursday to form a consensus on their participation in the peace talks, so that they can make a final decision.
