Afghan government called on politicians and people from various layers of the society to introduce their representatives for a National and Inclusive Negotiating team to conduct peace talks on behalf of Afghan citizens, President Ashraf Ghani’s spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri said on Saturday.

It comes amid ongoing peace negotiations between the Taliban delegations and the US special envoy Zalmay Kahlilzad in Doha, Qatar, proposing for an inclusive national team to further facilitate peace process amongst Afghan citizens.

According to Chakhansuri, outstanding efforts have been measured into the negotiating parties; now it is time to organize a team in which different layers of Afghan society will represent their role for the betterment of the country.

“Afghan politicians and different layers of the society have been consulted and they have been asked to give lists to government and based on the list, considering the current phase of the peace process, an effective team would be formed to lead negotiations,” Chakhansuri said.

Mohammad Mohaqiq, former Second Chief Executive Officer for Afghanistan CEO, who attended Moscow talks last month, said that Afghan government and politicians have agreed upon organizing an inclusive team in which Ghani’s administration will be included in the peace process.

It comes as Taliban delegations refused to talks with Afghan government regarding any issue concerning peace in the county.

“The team will not be a government’s team, because government has its problems and the problem is that Taliban has announced that they will not talk with the Afghan government. Also, they (Taliban) have announced that they will talk with an inclusive delegation which represents all Afghanistan,” said Mubarez Rashidi, member of Peace and Moderation election team.

Meanwhile, talks on a comprehensive ceasefire between the US and Taliban delegations continue in Doha since last week, from which an outcome is expected in near future. The meeting, however, is not clear when it would come to an end.
