COVID-19 Infection Toll Exceeds 2 Million in United States

As cases continue to rise steadily, the infection toll in the U.S. now hit 2,007,745, with a total of 112,848 related deaths, according to the data collated by Reuters.

The New York City remains the country’s worst-hit part, with a total of 384,900 infections in the state and 30,376 related deaths.

The state of New Jersey saw the largest increase in cases on Thursday, bringing the total infections to 165,346. The death toll stood at 12,377 as additional patients died of the illness within the last 24 hours.

California remains a third state with most cases of the deadly disease behind New York and New Jersey. The new cases of infection within the last 24 hours brought the confirmed total to 139,775 cases, with 4,854 related deaths.

The state of California is then followed by Illinois and Massachusetts with more than a hundred thousand cases of infection across the states.

The novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, which first emerged in China’s central city of Wuhan has now spread to almost every state of the U.S. and has killed thousands of people across the country.
