Coronavirus: Total Infections Jumps to 4,963 in Afghanistan

12 May (The Killid Group) — Afghanistan coronavirus infection toll hit 4,963, death toll stands at 127.

The Afghan Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that the country’s tally has jumped to 4,963 and that the number of confirmed infections, including deaths, recovered and current cases, had risen to 5,700 in the country.

The daily rise in the number of infections and deaths was sharply high for another day in a row, a sign the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is approaching the peak of its crisis.

According to deputy public health minister, the total infections within the last 24 hours includes 84 cases in Kabul, 33 in Balkh, 28 in Maidan Wardak, 20 in Badghis, 20 in Nangarhar, 14 in Takhar, 13 in Kandahar, 12 in Herat, seven in Helmand province, five in each Kunduz and Sare-Pol, four in each Jawzjan and Parwan, three in each Kapisa and Badakhshan, and one in each Urozgan, Baghlan, Faryab, Paktia and Samangan.

Presenting the latest statistics, 610 patients having been contracted with the disease have recovered as additional patients got better after the illness.

The ministry’s latest figures related to the pandemic, however, indicated that within the past 24 hours, five infected patients have died of the virus, taking the nationwide death toll to 127.

Globally, the pandemic has infected more than 4.1 million people and killed over 286,000 , mostly in the United States and the Europe, the JHU coronavirus tracker indicated.
