Integrity Watch Afghanistan: National Unity Government Has No Achievement in Fighting Corruption

(TKG) — Officials in Integrity Watch Afghanistan have criticized the government and said that since the formation of the National Unity Government, no progress has been made against corruption.

Sayed Ikram Afzali, the Executive Director of Integrity Watch Afghanistan said in a news conference on Thursday [January 23, 2020] that Afghanistan has been ranked once again among the world’s top 10 corrupt countries.

Mr. Afzali further said that the country’s anti-corruption rules  have not been implemented so far and the judiciary has been always used as a tool.

The Executive Director of Integrity Watch Afghanistan, meanwhile, accused the government of supporting corruptors, adding that due to the interventions in the work of the anti-corruption agencies, many of the corruption cases remain uninvestigated.

Wahidullah Azizi, the spokesman for the Transparency International, in the meantime, said the gap between the government and the people is increasing day by day, which has had a negative impact on many sectors.

Based on the Corruption Perception Index 2019 released by the Transparency International, Afghanistan has scored 16 out of 100, indicting that Afghanistan remains as one of the top 10 corrupt countries.
