US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will meet with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt during his Middle East visit starting Tuesday to discuss strengthening security cooperation, according to the Pentagon. US media reported that Mattis’ visit to the Middle East comes within the framework of the Trump administration’s pursuit to reset Washington’s relations with traditional US partners in the Middle East. Washington provides intelligence as well as aerial refuelling to coalition warplanes conducting air strikes in Yemen with American-supplied weapons. Several UN brokered ceasefires and peace talks have so far failed to end the conflict in Yemen.
