Amnesty International South Asia Regional Office has called for immediate end to house searches in Kabul and beyond, branding them as human rights violations.

“This is in violation of human rights norms – in particular, Afghanistan`s international obligations on the right to privacy and non-discrimination,” it posted on Twitter Tuesday.

These searching operations conducted by men and without any prior notifications affect mostly women and girls and there is no justifications for it, the organization said.

Islamic Emirate forces have begun searching houses recently.

Zabihullah Mujahid, government chief spokesman, said addressing a news conference on Sunday that security, defense and intelligence forces are jointly searching house in bids to ensure security for the residents.

Mujahid added imams (worship leaders) of mosques, county representatives as well as female police forces accompany the forces during the operation.

The operations also drew concerns from foreign missions to Afghanistan and sparked fear among residents.
