Three women working at dubbing department of the Inikaas television network were killed Tuesday evening in two separate but coordinated attacks in Jalalabad city.
Jumagul Hemat, provincial police chief, said a man named Qari Basir, member of the Taliban group was the main suspect behind yesterday’s attack. He was arrested with a pistol and a rickshaw with himself.
Another two people were wounded in Tuesday’s armed attack, the police chief said.
Afghan President condemned the attack on female media workers, pointing the blame at Taliban. The Taliban cannot silence the voice advocating for the Republic and the gains achieved in the past two decades.
The Taliban, however, has issued denial to be behind.
Following the assassination of the media workers in eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, Afghan peace broker Abdullah Abdullah, former President Hamid Karzai, the Amnesty International, the UN mission to Afghanistan, the U.S. Embassy and others from rights and political spectrum condemned the attack.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) condemned the attack, calling on the government to meaningfully investigate into the incident and share the findings with the media community.
A media advocacy organization called NAI or the organization for Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan has urged the Afghan government to hunt down the perpetrators and hold them to account.
According to the figures published by NAI, as many as seven Afghan journalists and media workers and three family members of a local reporter have been killed within the past three months.
