COVID-19: Afghanistan Reports 16 New Infections

Health ministry in Afghanistan on Thursday (February 25) reported 16 new COVID-19 infections and four related death in the past 24 hours.

According to Afghan health ministry, at least four more patients have died after contracting the disease, pushing the toll of fatalities to 2,442.

Also, as many as 16 new cases of infection were reported in the country, bringing the nationwide case count to 55,696.

The new infection cases were registered in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Takhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Nimroz, Helmand, Daikundi, Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

Some 49,281 patients have recovered from the virus since the outbreak first entered the country.

It comes as Afghanistan on Tuesday began its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Afghanistan launched its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.
