Afghan Gov’t: Afghan Forces Remain in Active Defensive Positions

25 April (The Killid Group) While nearly a hundred security personnel have been killed in the past week’s assaults, according to media reports, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said the number of fatalities among insurgents were higher than the security forces.

Although the Afghan security forces have remained in active defensive positions, yet dozens of their ambushes and assaults have been thwarted by the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANDSF), said Fawad Aman, the deputy spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry.

Meanwhile, Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the Office of National Security Council (ONCS), without specifically addressing the number killed among Afghan forces, said that the Afghan forces have killed more than three hundred insurgents in the last week.

Military analysts, however, claimed that a poor management and incompetency among the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANDSF) were seen as the main reasons for a ramp up in casualties.

Since the announcement of the last year’s bitterly disputed presidential elections, the country has been shaken by a political turmoil, which has been a serious blow to Afghan forces’ morale, said Abdul Bari Arez, a military commentator. According to him, Afghan forces also lack professionalism to prevail in battles against the Taliban.

In the meantime, another military affairs analyst, Amrullah Aman also criticized management of the security forces, saying most of the military appointments are based on a spoiled system. This has led to an increase in the number of security forces casualties, Mr. Aman added.

Recently, an increase in deadly assaults by insurgents has shattered the Afghan people dream of peace.
