Saudi Inks Accord to Build a Hospital, 4 Clinics in Afghanistan

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – During an official visit of the President Ashraf Ghani in Saudi Arabia, Islamic Development Bank chairman Bandar Al Hajjaj and Afghan Acting Minister of Finance Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi signed an agreement to build one hospital and four clinics in Afghanistan.

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – During an official visit of the President Ashraf Ghani in Saudi Arabia, Islamic Development Bank chairman Bandar Al Hajjaj and Afghan Acting Minister of Finance Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi signed an agreement to build one hospital and four clinics in Afghanistan.

“… the Afghan Acting Minister of Finance Dr. Qayoumi and IsDB Chairman Dr. Al-Hajjar signed the agreement on construction of one 100-bed hospital and four clinics in Afghanistan,” as ARG (Presidential Palace) said in a tweet Sunday.

Each of the four rural health care centers will provide a wide range of services in an area of up to 60,000 people, Arab News said in the report. The total cost of the project is $24.84 million based on the preliminary estimates provided by the late King Abdullah’s Fael Khair Program, run by the IDB.

Both sides discussed mutual relations and strengthening ties in various fields between the two countries, and the latest developments in Afghanistan.

“The two sides discussed a set of issues in the realms of Afghanistan economic growth, development and self-reliance as well as investment and cooperation in the areas of agriculture and providing long-term loans to Afghanistan,” ARG further said.

Meanwhile, President Ghani highlighted that the bank’s commitment of cooperation will contribute to the economic growth, agricultural development and bringing positive changes to the lives of the Afghan public.

“AFG is doing well in agricultural spheres & our products & fruits are reaching Int [International] markets. He called for assistance & investment of Islamic Development Bank to further contribute in AFG’s agricultural growth & improve income & livelihood of AFG farmers & orchardist,” Ghani stressed.
