Situation in Ghazni Gradually Returned to Normal

The security situation in the capital of Ghazni province has limped back to normal after five days of fighting, a local official said.

The Taliban launched a brazen attack on the strategic Afghan city of Ghazni, south of the capital Kabul, early on Friday, seizing key buildings and trading fire with security forces.

Muhammad Aref Noori, spokesman of Ghazni governor declared that currently the situation of Ghazni is normal and a number of government administrations, health centers, clinics, markets and shops reopened and started activities again.

The communication networks also reactivated and started their programs.

Noori noted the security threats have not been completely resolved and the risks and fears still exist in the province.

According to him, fierce clashes are still ongoing in rural villages of Ghazni city and the Afghan security forces are clearing the areas of Taliban in their operations.

Noori stated the exact figure of casualties is still not clear due to the power cutting and problems in network systems of the province.

The spokesman in an interview with the Killid reporter emphasized that more than 40 civilians, 100 security troops and 400 Taliban fighters were killed during the five days of fighting in the province.

Noori said most of the killed civilians are the government employees who shot dead by the Taliban militants in their homes.

Elsewhere in Afghanistan, the Taliban attacked a police checkpoint in the southern Zabul province early Wednesday, killing four police, according to the provincial police chief, Mustafa Mayar, who said another three officers were wounded.

He said seven attackers were killed and five were wounded during the battle, in which the Taliban used artillery and heavy weapons.
