Relatives and an Afghan media watchdog confirmed the death of Hamid Saighani, former employee of Ariana television network in the explosion.
“Yet another journalist killed in Afghanistan,” tweeted Afghanistan Journalists Center, an independent local media watchdog, noting that Saighani was at least the ninth journalist killed in Afghanistan this year.
Hamid’s wife, Fawzia Wahdat, also confirmed the death of her husband. “I lost Hamid,” she posted.
A minivan caught fire and exploded Saturday evening in western Kabul, a neighborhood dominated by members of the minority Shiite Hazara community.
The ministry of interior put the toll of casualties to one killed and four others wounded.
An investigation into the incident was underway.
