Najia Anwari, spokesperson for the Afghan State Ministry for Peace Affairs, said Friday in footage that government negotiation team was fully ready for the peace talks.

According to her, ceasefire will be the top priority of the Afghan government in the negotiations.

Afghan negotiators will start important discussions with the Taliban negotiating representatives in Doha today, Fraidoon Khwazoon, spokesman for High Council for National Reconciliation took to Twitter Saturday

The negotiation team of the Afghan government left for Doha Tuesday (January 5) to resume peace talks after the three-week pause.

A day after the Afghan government’s peace negotiation team arrived in Doha, negotiators from both the Afghan government as well as the Taliban in similar statements announced that the two sides of the negotiating table held second round of peace talks in an opening session Wednesday, and it was decided to discuss the items of the agenda for peace talks on Saturday, January 9.

Second Round of Peace Talks Begins in Doha

The two parties had paused the talks for a 21-days break earlier on December to seek internal consultations.

In the first round of talks which lasted for three months, negotiators from the two sides agreed on a code of conduct for the talks and exchanged the list of items of a draft agenda ahead of taking the recess.
