U.S. Envoy for Afghan Peace Condemns IED Blast on Human Rights Workers

Early on Saturday’s morning, employees of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) were killed after their vehicle was hit by an IED.

The U.S. Special Rep. for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, on Sunday strongly condemned the IED attack on the employees of human rights commission, calling it “an anti-human act”.

“The targeted killing of Fatima Khalil and Jawid Folad today, two Afghans dedicated to the cause of fundamental human rights, is an anti-human act. We condemn this terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms,” said Mr. Khalilzad in a Twitter thread.

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission list two of its employees when an IED attacked to their vehicle tore through in the capital Kabul’s Pul-e-Charkhi area.

The provincial police chief’s spokesman put the toll at two dead, including a women, who were on way to office.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack and the Taliban denied to be behind the attack.
