An IED exploded inside Shir Shah Suri mosque in Kabul’s Kart-e 4 area, leaving the Imam of the mosque and three other worshippers killed and eight others injured.
The deadly blast sparked widespread condemnation and reactions.
The Afghan Presidential Palace in a statement slammed the attack and called it against humanity and Islamic values.
According to the statement, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ordered for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Afghan Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation in a statement published on Facebook also condemned the attacks in Kabul’s Kart-4 area, calling it an “unforgivable crime”.
Former President Hamid Karzai, on his Facebook page has also condemned today’s heinous blast inside the mosque, calling it a crime against humanity and Islam.
Meanwhile, the NATO Senior Civilian Representative, Mr. Stefano Pontecorvo in a Twitter post slammed the attack, saying that perpetrators of today’s attack in Kabul’s mosque must be brought to justice.
“As we face a historical opportunity for peace, spoilers can’t be allowed to disrupt it. We stand with #Afghanistan in the fight against terror,” Mr. Pontecorvo added.
The embassies of the U.S., Bretain Turkey, Iran, and number of other international figures expressed their condemnation and shared their sympathy with the families of victims.
The armed Taliban, meanwhile, in a statement, condemned yesterday’s attack in Kabul and called a “major crime”.
Following the death of Dr. Mohammad Ayaaz Niazi, the Imam of Wazir Akbar Khan mosque in a blast inside the mosque, Mawlawi Azizullah Moflih, was a second leader of prayer (Imam) who came under attack and lost his life.
