March 16 (The Killid Group) — Five more cases of the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, were recorded in Afghanistan.

Waheedullah Mayar, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health said on Monday that five cases of infection by the coronavirus were detected in the provinces of Herat, Logar and Badghis.

Of the total number of infection cases, two cases were recorded in Herat, two cases in Logar and one more in Badghis, bringing the total number of infection cases to 21, Mayar added.

The people infected with the virus had recently returned from Iran, Mayar further said.

Based on an estimation of Herat’s Refugee and Repatriation Agency, however, more than 10,000 Afghan refugees return from Iran in a day, which has raised concerns among residents of Afghanistan.
