Today, European Union Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton issued a statement, saying that Afghanistan’s second parliamentary election is an important and tangible sign of its independence.

Today, European Union Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton issued a statement, saying that Afghanistan’s second parliamentary election is an important and tangible sign of its independence.

 

Ashton announced his support to the Afghan people, candidates, voters, and all electoral officials who are concerned about the future of their country.

He urged Afghan Independent Election Commission to continue its efforts fairly and clearly.

He also applauded the increase in number of female candidates in this election.
