Acting Minister of Education: The Lack of Suitable Conditions Caused Ban on Girls’ Schools

During a visit to Panjshir Province, Habibullah Agha, Acting Minister of Education, told reporters about the reopening of girls’ schools above the sixth grade: “We have left the issue of reopening girls’ schools to scholars. When they consult and agree, based on the government will make a decision.”

However, a number of students and their families asks the government to finalize this decision, because being away from lessons and education has made them extremely worried.

Fakhriah, one of the students, said: “We are not allowed to go to school for nearly two years and we are so worried that we are missing our lessons. We ask the authorities to reopen the schools for us.”

Meanwhile, Ahmad, a resident of Mazar-e-Sharif, said: “We demand Islamic Emirate to open schools for girls according to Islamic Sharia law.”

Azizullah, a resident of Kunduz Province, has a similar view. He says: “Any conditions that the Islamic Emirate has considered for the reopening of schools for girls should be implemented soon because our sisters are waiting to go to schools.”

But what is the reason why the government is not able for making a decision regarding this?

Mawlawi Mohammad Farooq Ansari, one of the religious scholars said: “One of the reasons for delaying reopening schools for girls is the lack of suitable classrooms and other facilities for them, which a way has been to solve these problems. The leader of Muslims (Amir al-Mo’minin) has consulted scholars and elders, and soon we will see girls going to school. ”

Meanwhile, Mujtaba Nusrat, one of the political commentators, says: “The government has not provided a satisfactory reason till now for reopening schools for girls. If the issue is referred to scholars, I am sure that they will consider education as the right of girls. So, reopening schools is a necessity.”

While the Acting Minister of Education is talking about the inappropriate conditions for reopening schools for girls above the sixth grade, Wang Wenbin, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a meeting in Beijing that the Islamic Emirate should take serious steps for the attracting trust of the international community and reopen schools and universities for girls.
