According to the IRNA state news agency, Mohsen Karami, head of the Central Bank of Iran, at the contract signing ceremony, on Sunday said that: Iranian and Russian banks have connected their banking networks to each other in the past year, based on the agreements made.

Karami without mentioning names said, 100 banks in 13 other countries are also connected to this network.

In response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Western countries banned Russian banks from the Belgium-based SWIFT financial system. This system transferred billions of dollars daily to more than 11,000 banks and financial institutions worldwide.

After the withdrawal of the US from the nuclear agreement in 2018, the Trump administration took similar actions against Iranian banks by imposing severe economic sanctions.
