Croatia started using the European single currency (Euro) at midnight on Saturday (31st December – 2022), and at the same time eliminated dozens of border checkpoints, to join the world’s largest passport-free travel zone, the Schengen area.
Croatia’s accession to the Schengen area means that Croatians can now travel freely in the 27 Schengen member states without a passport for work or leisure.
In the same way, the adoption of the euro will allow this country to use the facilities of better economic relations with the member states of this union and the European Central Bank.
Croatia joined the European Union in 2013, but to convert its currency to the euro, the country had to meet a set of economic conditions, including having a fixed exchange rate and controlled inflation.
