According to a UNAMA announcement, Markus Potzel; the head of this office has said: “The closure of girls’ schools above the sixth grade is sad and harmful for girls and the future of Afghanistan”.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights emphasizes that the denial of education is a violation of the most basic rights of girls and women, which increases the risk of violence and abuse of girls.
The declaration also added that the international community supports a government in Afghanistan that represents all Afghans and respects their rights.
Although the officials of the Ministry of Education have said that a committee of religious scholars is working on a plan to reopen girls’ schools, UNAMA says that the Islamic Emirate has not fulfilled its promises to reopen these schools.
It should be mentioned that last year, at the same time as the beginning of the academic year and the reopening of schools for all students in Afghanistan, girls above the sixth grade were not allowed to enter the classrooms.
The United Nations says that following this decision, more than one million girls have been deprived of education.
