Afghanistan reported 97 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to government data released Wednesday.

The nationwide tally of infections has reached to 171,519 since the start of the pandemic, figures by the country’s health ministry showed.

The country also reported nine related deaths in the last 24-hour period, taking the overall tally to 7,513 fatalities.

Also, 274 patients recuperated from the disease in last 24 hours.

With COVID-19 infections on rise, officials ask residents to follow health measures.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 5,834,244 people worldwide since it began in December 2019, according to a NYT’s tally. 

More than 414.8 million people have been infected worldwide, the tally showed.
