Islamic Emirate authorities say that they are holding negotiations with a joint technical team from Qatar and Turkey over operating five airports, including Kabul airport.

There were however no agreements made yet, Bilal Karimi, the Islamic Emirate deputy spokesperson, told TKG.

“No agreement has been reached yet,” said Karimi. “We are in talks with those countries over technical issues and standardizing the airports.”

Experts say running the airports by Turkey and Qatar will positively impact the political and economic situation in Afghanistan.

Extensive damage were inflicted to Kabul airport following during the foreign forces’ chaotic withdrawal from the country in August.

The Kabul airport terminal, radar system, aircraft and vehicles were all damaged.

A Qatari team later reopened Kabul airport.

After the Islamic Emirate seized control of the country, Turkey offered technical and security assistance to operationalize Kabul’s airport.
