U.S. Kabul Embassy Advise against Travel to Airport

Sharing a State Department’s message, U.S. Embassy in Kabul advised people eligible to travel to the United States against traveling to Hamid Karzai International Airport unless they get contacted and receive individual instructions.

U.S. citizens, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants and those affiliated with the United States have been advised to follow specific instructions provided to them.

“You are advised to avoid traveling to Hamid Karzai International Airport unless you are contacted,”according to the message. “This is a long and time-consuming process.”

It has urged all those individuals to immediately leave the airport if they do not have the permit to flight.

“Avoid traveling the airport for your own safety and the safety of your family and others.”

A week after the Taliban took back power in Afghanistan, thousands of people trying to flee country have flooded the airport.

Chaotic scenes has been playing out at Kabul airport as thousands desperate to leave Afghanistan seek to reach evacuation flights. 

Taliban have blamed the U.S. for the airport chaos. 

“America, with all its power and facilities… has failed to bring order to the airport. There is peace and calm all over the country, but there is chaos only at Kabul airport,” Taliban official Amir Khan Mutaqi said as cited by AFP.
