“A delegation from the Political Office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan met with a number of political figures in Kabul today,” tweeted Muhammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Political Office of the Taliban in Qatari capital Doha.
The delegation said in the meeting with the country’s politicians that the “Islamic Emirate” wants a strong central government that respects the rule of law and gives every citizen the opportunity to serve the country, he said.
The office of Afghanistan’s national reconciliation council meanwhile said that former president Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of the council, met with Taliban political office members, including Shahabuddin Delawari Delawar, Abdul Salam Hanafi, Khairullah Khairkhwa and Abdul Rahman Feda at Abdullah’s house in Kabul.
Both sides “exchanged views on the current security and political developments, and an inclusive political settlement for the future of the country,” Abdullah’s office said.
The Taliban entered Kabul on Aug. 15 after taking control of most parts of Afghanistan, following the rapid withdrawal of the U.S. and NATO forces from the country that began in May.
