A presidency statement read that he met with Afghan political and jihadi leaders in the province, former Vice President Marshal Abdul Rasheed Dostum, former Balkh governor Ata Mohammad Noor, his adviser Mohammad Mohaqeq and others.
They assessed overall situation of the country’s northern zone, according to the statement, and discussed ways to mobilize public uprising forces.
The President’s trip to Balkh comes amid Taliban advances in northern provinces.
Several provincial capitals have come under the armed group’s control.
Last night, former Vice President Marshal Abdul Rasheed Dostum went to Balkh’s capital of Mazar-i-Sharif along with his forces.
