Afghan Peace Official Meets U.N. Envoy

Top Afghan peace official Abdullah Abdullah, who is head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, on Tuesday evening met with U.N. special envoy Deborah Lyons in his office in Kabul.

Afghan Peace Official Meets U.N. Envoy

In a statement released Tuesday by the reconciliation council, the U.N. Secretary General’s special envoy and head of its assistance mission in Afghanistan Deborah Lyons escalation of civilian casualties has promoted the U.N.’s concerns.

She emphasized that Afghan conflicting parties need to accept that escalation and sustaining the war are not the way out to the country’s crisis.

Head of the U.N. agency in Afghanistan reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued efforts for reaching a political settlement in the country.

Head of Afghanistan’s reconciliation council Abdullah Abdullah wrote on his Twitter, saying both discussed the peace process, the Doha talks, civilians casualties as well as the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board meeting.
