On Wednesday, June 23, Mr. Mohaqiq entered Mazar-i-Sharif city, capital of Balkh, assuring the city will not fall to Taliban.
People stand along the government to defend the country, he said, as Taliban chose fighting instead of peace.
He is to mobilize people against Taliban and retake areas that had fallen to the militants.
It comes a day after former governor of northern Balkh province went to Mazar-i-Sharif city to mobilize people to stand against Taliban.
He called on Taliban to leave the battlefield and return to the negotiation table. If not, Mazar-i-Sharif will be a cemetery of the Taliban, he warned while speaking to reporters.
Armed Taliban had captured five districts of the province in just one week and had advanced near the entrance of Mazar-i-Sharif city, but were pushed back as Afghan forces arrived.
