Mawlawi Mardan, a Taliban commander and the men loyal to him have put their guns aside and surrendered to Afghan forces, said provincial governor Saboor Qane.
The Taliban fighters who have stopped fighting call on other members of the group to leave battlefields and serve their country.
Residents of Herat province have mobilized against Taliban amid fighting between government forces and the armed group that started to surge since the foreign forces began withdrawal.
On Wednesday, 200 people from Guzara district of the province took up arms against Taliban.
Taliban in a statement have warned whoever has organized the moves would not be remitted by the group.
