Afghan forces supported by pro-government uprising forces pushed back Taliban attack on Rustaq district of Takhar, said ministry’s spokesman Ahmad Zia Zia.
At least five Taliban fighters were killed and three others wounded in clashes, he said.
Abu Yusuf, said to be the insurgents’ shadow district governor for Rustaq was also among the dead.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
