The bomb exploded following clashes between government forces and Taliban fighters.

According to Battalion commander Ala Mohammad Hamdard who spoke with TKG on Monday, clashes between Afghan forces and Taliban fighters erupted following the insurgents’ attack on an army outpost near Salma Dam, a hydroelectric and irrigation dam located on the Hari River in Chisht-e Sharif district of Herat.

The fighting inflicted casualties to the Taliban, said Mr. Hamdard.

He called for reinforcements for Afghan forces.

Afghan-India Friendship Dam (AIFD), formerly Salma Dam, is a hydroelectric and irrigation dam project located on the Hari River in Chisht-e Sharif district of Herat province in western Afghanistan.

According to Mr. Hamdard, Taliban presence in Badghis and Ghor provinces have posed a threat to the dam.
