Armed Taliban on Monday stormed Ab Band district of Ghazni province, said governor’s spokesman Wahidullah Jumazada, but they faced Afghan forces.
The fighting inflicted causalities to both sides.
At least 14 Taliban fighters were killed and seven others wounded in hours-long clashes with government forces, the spokesman said.
The clashes also inflicted casualties to Afghan forces, killing three soldiers and wounding another two.
Afghan forces made a tactical retreat in bids to curb civilian casualties, Mr. Jumazada said.
The fighting has ramped up between Afghan forces and the Taliban as foreign forces have already begun leaving Afghanistan.
