Residents of Badakhshan province on Tuesday, June 8, took to streets to protest against insecurity and lack of water and electricity, but the protests turned violent.
Protestors have said police opened fire at them when they approached the governor’s office.
Local officials, however, accuse the protesters of engaging in unrest and resorting to violence.
Nek Mohammad Nazari, provincial governor’s spokesman, said protestors stormed the governor’s office without voicing their demands.
Sources from local hospital have said three people have been killed and 20 others wounded after police opened fire.
It is two weeks that residents of Badakhshan have faced lack of water in the province.
