According to members of the provincial council of northern Faryab province, armed Taliban had placed an IED beneath the Qaisar district police headquarters.

The police chief and a number of soldiers were killed and several others wounded as the IED went off, the source added.

The Taliban digging a tunnel and placing an IED beneath the district headquarters, destroyed the police HQs, Manan Qati, member of Faryab’s provincial council, spoke with TKG.

Saifurrahman Dehzad, Qaisar district police chief was killed with several other soldiers, Mr. Qati added.

Members of the provincial council have said that Afghan forces were sheltered in the municipality headquarters following the bomb explosion and clashes with the group fighters.

As many as 20 security personnel surrendered to Taliban after government failed to provide them with on-time support, sources said.

The district could fall to Taliban, provincial council members have said, if government failed to provide assistance.

The Taliban officials have said in a statement that more than 30 government forces have surrendered to the group and two Humvees have been seized by them.
