Coronavirus: Afghanistan Reports 1,379 Infections

Health ministry in Afghanistan on Sunday reported daily rise of 1,379 COVID-19 infections and 50 related deaths in the past 24 hours.

As many as 50 more patients have died after contracting the disease caused by the coronavirus, pushing the toll of fatalities to 3,195, health ministry’s data showed.

Also, as many as 1,379 new cases of infection were reported in the country, according to health ministry’s data, bringing the nationwide case count to 80,615.

As many as 357 patients recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.

The ministry’s figures indicated that 4,544 tests were carried out in this period.

Afghanistan’s health ministry last week announced the closure of schools, universities and educational institutions in 16 provinces as the country has seen spike in daily cases. READ MORE

The decision was made in bids to fight a third wave of the coronavirus that already entered the country, taking effect from Saturday, May 29, for two weeks.
