The decision was made in bids to fight a third wave of the coronavirus that already entered the country, taking effect from Saturday, May 29, for two weeks, according to the ministry’s statement.
The provinces include the Afghan capital of Kabul, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Parwan, Wardak, Panjshir, Balkh, Badakhshan, Kapisa and Kunduz.
The health ministry has once again urged residents of the country to follow health measurers.
Afghanistan reported its first case of COVID-19 in late February.
So far, more than 70,000 cases of the virus have been registered in the south-Asian country while nearly 3,000 have died from the disease.
