Afghan Gov’t Appoints Acting Governor for Faryab

Abdul Moqim Rasikh has been appointed as Faryab acting governor following widespread protests against Dawood Laghmani who was appointed as the province’s new governor earlier on April.

According to a statement released Monday by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), Mr. Rasikh takes the post to answer demands of the province’s residents and solve their problems.

Following Dawood Laghmani’s appointment as the province’s new governor, residents of Faryab took to streets, protesting against his hire.

A week and a half earlier, on May 17, Dawood Mohammad Dawood Laghmani officially took office as new governor of Faryab province. READ MORE

He assumed the office at a ceremony held at an army base in Maimana city on Monday.
