The Taliban attacks were thwarted as Afghan Special Forces arrived in the province, inflicting heavy casualties to the group fighters, acting defense minister Yasin Zia who led the fighting last night said.
There was no security threats in Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of Laghman, according to the minister, and Afghan forces’ operations were underway to clear off the province from the Taliban.

According to a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, the group fighters seized several outposts and weapons from government forces during the attacks.
