Taliban Commander Killed in Herat

A Taliban key commander has been killed and five captured for alleged relations with the insurgents in the Afghan western Herat province, officials in the army in west of the country said.

Mullah Sultan, the Taliban commander for Zinda Jan district of Herat province, who was involved in destruction of several bridges in the province, was killed while placing an IED, read a statement by Zafar 207th army corps.

Another two militants accompanying the commander were also killed as the IED went off, it added.

In another statement, the army said at least five people have been arrested for alleged cooperation with the group in Ghoryan district.

There was no comment from the group.
