Armed Taliban on Tuesday morning stormed Baghlan-e Markazi district from several positions, but the attacks were pushed back, said police spokesman Jawed Besharat.
Taliban fighters suffered heavy casualties during the clashes, he said.
He issued denial to reports that the district had fallen to Taliban.
The spokesman further added that Afghan forces are at the area ready to repulse the insurgents’ any movements.
There was no comment from the Taliban.
