Under a Presidential decree, Mohammad Dawood Laghmani on Monday officially took office as new governor of Faryab province, said Nargis Momand Hassanzai, spokesperson for the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
He assumed the office at a ceremony held at an army base in Maimana city on Monday.
Faryab residents, however, have protested the appointment as they have taken to streets.
Laghmani was set to take office and officially work as new governor of Faryab on Saturday, May 15, but protestors did not allow him.
