Negotiators from the Afghan government and the Taliban resumed their talks on Friday evening after a long pause.

Afghan Negotiators Resume Peace Talks after Long Pause

Abdul Salam Rahimi and Fatima Gilani, members of a peace negotiation team representing the Afghan government, participated in a meeting with the Taliban negotiators in Doha, Qatar.

Both sides discussed current issues of the country and to step up peace talks, according to the government negotiation team.

Naeem Wardak, a Taliban spokesman for its political office in Qatar, meanwhile, said a team led by its deputy leader Mullah Baradar attended the meeting.

According to the Taliban spokesman, both teams agreed to resume talks after Eid ul-Fitr, Muslims festival after a month-long fasting in Ramadan.

The meeting comes as a U.S.-backed peace conference in Turkey is also scheduled to after Eid.
