A deadly car bomb explosion shook west of Kabul city on Saturday evening, killing more than 50, with the toll expected to rise.

An explosion took place Saturday around 4:27 local time near Sayed ul-Shuhada school in Dasht-e Barchi area, west of Afghan capital of Kabul, said Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.

The initial reports indicated a toll of casualties was 25 killed and 52 wounded—all civilians.

The toll has now rose to more than 50 killed and more than 100 wounded and it was likely to rise.

The spokesman added that explosions were caused by a car bomb and two placed IEDs in the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Afghan government blamed Taliban to be responsible for the attack but the group has denied involvement and condemned it.

The attack killing mostly schoolgirls have sparked widespread condemnation.
