The nation already torn by long-decades war has faced a third wave of the coronavirus, said Mirwais Alizai, deputy spokesman for the Afghan Public Health Ministry on Saturday.
Cases are spiking in country’s eastern provinces.
Afghan capital, Kabul, and provinces alongside the borders have the highest record of cases after eastern region.
The COVID-19 vaccine roll out has also begun in the country, with more than 480,000 having been inoculated so far.
Afghan officials have constantly asked people to follow precautionary measures.
