During the meeting that took place Sunday evening, President Ghani’s former Vice President and an Uzbek warlord Marshal Abdul Rasheed Dostum said he would resist if any group tended to take power forcefully, said Hashmatullah Arman, member of Afghan Lower House of Parliament (Wolesi Jirga).
Afghanistan’s peace process, U.S. continued support to the country as well as the U.S.-backed Turkey peace conference.
Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, took to Twitter that he had met with Uzbek Foreign Minister, Abdul Aziz Kamilov too.
“We agreed at this critical time, all stakeholders (Afghan, regional, & international) must urgently support progress toward an inclusive political settlement that ends over 40 years of war in Afghanistan,” he tweeted.
It comes as violence has soared in the country, killing dozens every day.
A U.S.-sponsored peace conference on Afghanistan which was set to happen on April 24, but had been postponed due to the Taliban refusal to participate.
