This member of the insurgent group wanted to place an IED at a side of a road in the provincial capital of Maidan Wardak province to target civilians and security forces, said police spokesman Mohammad Hofiani.
The bomb detonated, killing the planter himself, according to the spokesman.
There were no other casualties, he said.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
