Akbar Pacha, a tribal elder, was killed after unidentified gunmen stormed his house last night, said Mohammad Lal Amiri, provincial police spokesman.
The perpetrators managed to flee the area, according to the spokesman.
Efforts were underway to hunt down the assailants, he added.
There was no claim of responsibility for the murder.
