Afghan chief of intelligence agency—the National Security Directorate—Ahmad Zia Siraj, said Tuesday during a press conference that a Taliban key member named Mawlawi Ahmad Kandahari was killed in Afghan air raids in an area between Maiwand and Zhari districts of southern Kandahar province.
He was the insurgents’ key member after Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, according to Mr. Siraj.
The chief of Afghanistan’s spy agency did not elaborate more on this.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
Mr. Siraj also added in his Tuesday’s remarks that Afghan forces have arrested 408 IS/Daesh members across the war-torn country.
Of those arrested 60% were Pakistani nationals, he added.
There were other nationals—from Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan, China, Jordan, Iran and a number of other countries.
