Afghan commando forces have carried out an operation in Khashrod district of Nimroz province, setting free at least 20 security personnel who were held in a Taliban custody, said the Ministry in a statement.
“Unfortunately, the prisoners were extensively tortured by the Taliban,” said Fawad Aman, a ministry’s deputy spokesman.
The ministry added that as many as seven Taliban militants, including a group’s commander, were killed during the operation.
The Taliban group has yet to comment.
Previously, dozens of prisoners, including Afghan forces and civilians, have been released from the Taliban custody in several Afghan provinces.
